What does first-time central heating mean?

First-time central heating just means that your home has never had central heating installed before.

How do I turn on my central heating for the first time?

Firing up your brand new, first-time central heating system couldn’t be easier.

  • Check the boiler pressure – The boiler pressure should be between 1 and 2 bars.
  • Bleed the radiators – There may be air trapped in the radiators, which will prevent them from heating up properly.
  • Set the thermostat – The thermostat controls the temperature of your home. You will need to set the thermostat to the desired temperature.
  • Turn on the boiler – Once the boiler is turned on, it’ll start to heat up the water in the system.
  • Wait for the radiators to heat up – It may take a few minutes for them to heat up, but it won’t be long before your house is toasty and warm.

But you don’t need to worry about any of this – our skilled engineers will set everything up before showing you how to control it yourself.

What are first-time central heating grants?

First-time central heating grants are Government-funded grants that can help you pay for the cost of installing central heating in your home if you have never had it before. The grants are available through the Energy Company Obligation (ECO) scheme, which aims to improve the energy efficiency of homes in the UK.

Can I get a Government grant to install central heating?

Yes, you can get government grants for central heating if you meet the following criteria:

  • You must own or rent the property.
  • You must not already have central heating installed.
  • You must be in receipt of one of the qualifying benefits.
  • Your property must have an Energy Performance Certificate (EPC) rating of E, F, or G.
  • The amount of the grant will depend on your income and your property’s EPC rating. If you don’t qualify under the ECO4 scheme rules, you could still potentially be eligible under the LA Flex rules.
